The parish council has advised that works to dismantle the tree (to monolith) are almost completed.
Once the Contractor has left the site, the PC will issue a Notice on the PC Website and on the Oxborough Voice website concerning the collection of woodchip/timber but please note: AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Please do not start to remove the timber from the green until the Parish Council has posted that it is available.
The parish council has published details of discussions that have led to the beech tree being left as a monolith, which has been done for legal reasons regarding bats. The full details can be read here. It is an email chain, so I advise reading from the bottom upwards.
My personal opinion is that I am glad a monolith has been left for the wildlife. It’s a shame this tree had to go, but with the disease it had, it could have caused a significant safety problem for the village. This way, the tree should still be a place where wildlife can thrive.
