We achieved fame in the Oxborough pantomime and we are now looking for more volunteers to join our merry band; costumes and equipment will be provided!
Speedwatch is one of the ways that the Norfolk and Suffolk constabulary are trying to address speeding and we are one of over 90 groups throughout Norfolk. Our prime function is to slow traffic down by being a visible presence. However, during our last session in early December we reported 15 vehicles to the police for exceeding 36mph in the village, some of which were recorded at 45mph. This was approximately 20% of the vehicles that passed us during our one hour session. There will have been many more vehicles that exceeded but without reaching the threshold for reporting.
The current Speedwatch group was formed in March 2016 with seven volunteers. People have left as they moved away from the village or had other commitments and, although others have joined us, we are now down to only six volunteers, the minimum the police require for a group.
Our sessions are usually one hour long with three volunteers working together. All procedures have been assessed by the constabulary and we have modified our working to ensure the safety of the volunteers and compliance with Covid-19 protocols
We are a friendly group and in more ‘normal’ times we have been out for lunch at various local pubs, we have had afternoon tea provided by a volunteer’s wife and the Easter Bunny and Christmas Fairy make deliveries to volunteers’ letterboxes.
If you would be interested in joining the group please fill in the form below or come and say a socially distanced ‘hi’ if you see us in the village. The more volunteers we have the more sessions we can do and the greater our impact will be.
