Last Sunday, Cathy Warnock and Anita Cutler decided to start to clear some of the rubbish beside the roads of Oxborough.
They started at the entrance of Church Farm and travelled up to the Gooderstone crossroads, then back down the other side. They collected quite a lot of waste!

Cathy posted on the village Facebook group about their rubbish collection, and the good natured people of Oxborough stepped up to the plate, to help out with further collections.
It was agreed that there would be collection this weekend, with Sunday 2pm the time arranged.
Some couldn’t make that day and time so they went about the collection in their own time.
Teresa Wachter collected from the Bedingfeld down to Chalk Farm, and collected a large amount of rubbish, including TWO televisions!

Ben, Louise and their family tackled around the green on Sunday morning, working to collect the rubbish from the verge and ditches around the green, and they also collected a considerable pile.

The rest of us then met up on Sunday afternoon at the village hall car park and were given the necessary clothing and tools to mount a full scale attack on the rubbish in this village, but firstly, of course, we had a group photo.

We then went to our respective areas to collect rubbish. It’s quite amazing what can be found once you delve down into the ditches, and it seems car parts are one of those things. Our team found a whole plastic bumper, and Mike Wood found a whole exhaust pipe!

There’s often a lot of talk about community spirit. People talk about doing what’s best for their community, but when it comes to it, many don’t follow through with that. However, in our small village, about 20 of us came together to work together (though socially distanced) to make this village a better place. That’s what I call community spirit. You are all welcome to join us next time.
Thank you so much to everyone who came! You’ve made our village a more attractive place.
Also thank you to Susan Hernandez and Mike Nairn for help with the logistics. Breckland Council will be coming to take away the rubbish.
This is the large collection of rubbish collected from around our village, let’s hope it doesn’t get this bad again.
