The Village Hall AGM on October 29th was attended by 15 villagers 5 of which stood to be on the VH Committee. There are still vacancies to fill – see below.
I joined the committee about 3 years ago and have now been elected the VH Committee Chair. The current committee is made up of people from a wide range of backgrounds who all have a willingness to maintain the hall as a clean and attractive place for a wide range of activities, plus maintain the car park and the garden. We often work unsocial hours, organise events such as the monthly quiz and the annual b-b-q and support village initiatives such as the Village Breakfast and the new CafeOx. Many other activities take place on a regular basis.
In 2020 alone we have fund-raised £7,533 (in addition to £7,500 of our own VH funds) to create a brand new kitchen to replace the original 1976 kitchen. Following a competitive tendering process we offered the kitchen contract to Jake Stansfield an Oxborough resident. A range of other Oxborough residents also pledged or donated approx £750 for smaller items the kitchen required such as kettles, pots and pans, trays and a Village Breakfast earlier this year raised £400.
As we were unable to do much in lockdown – everyone on the committee and a number of other villagers – redecorated the main hall from top to bottom; and had fantastic new flexible lighting installed; new blinds made, and a general tidy up. Before that we fenced off the garden to make it safer, installed planters and a herb garden at the front, and had a new sign installed at the front of the hall. We have also spent much time Covid proofing the hall to ensure safe practices and events can take place such as yoga, aerobics, the dog club and the new CafeOx which were all active until the second lockdown commenced this week.
Do we all get on? We disagree at times but are very focussed on maintaining and modernising the hall for all villagers to use. Pop down and look through the window and see for yourselves or come to the Cafe when we re-open.

We are currently reviewing and modernising our historic constitution so it is easier to understand and reflects the Village as it is now. There are 4 vacancies – anyone interested?
